The provincial forest invites families to cut their own Christmas tree along highway 55, 55 miles east of Winnipeg, with permits costing 25 cents per person and a limit of one tree per permit. Area offers picnic tables and designated fire sites, but trees are dry from drought and mild weather risks needles.

Don’t Hoard Those Wrappings Prompt Fire Safety
A public safety notice warns against keeping Christmas wrapping near heat sources. Dispose of all wrapping materials promptly. Place inflammable materials in a safe container away from furnaces or open fires until they can be removed with other refuse.
Last Minute Trimming Is Safer
Buying the tree too long before Christmas allows it to dry and become a fire hazard. If obtained more than a week early keep it outside, covered if possible, and keep branches moist. Bring indoors only after trimming the trunk and placing in a shallow sand and water filled container.
Vitamin A in Beef Cattle Diets and Supplementation
The article explains that vitamin A is the key concern in beef cattle nutrition, with plant sources providing pro vitamin A as carotene. It covers sources like green pasture and silage, variability in hay, and the need to supplement when straw or grain-heavy rations are used. It notes cattle store vitamin A mainly in the liver, outlines critical needs for pregnant and lactating cattle, and provides general guidance and a table of daily vitamin A requirements.
