Despite extreme weather, citizen skepticism and ongoing manpower shortages, the Hamiota and District Memorial Rink project is now an established fact and set for completion in the near future for the benefit of the community.
The financial committee reports donations to date of 12133.09 and shares of 4000.00 and 30.00, total 16163.09 while expenditures reach 15737.77 and cash on hand 425.32. Liabilities show a critical shortfall from the original 22000.00 goal, urging a second contribution or purchase of rink bonds to reach the target.
A local community appeal urges residents to join in finishing the Memorial Rink project. Steering and financial roles are sought from Dr. J. E. Hudson and FE Steinson as secretary treasurer and president to mobilize support.
Sixty seed club members and forty visitors gathered in Bradwardine on Thursday November 23 for the Hamiota Agricultural District Seed Fair. Clubs represented included Hamiota Isabella Oak River Cardale Wheatland and Bradwardine with prizes awarded for displays and grain judging led by club leaders and Ex tension Service speakers. A community meal and dance capped the day.
The Baby Band met at Mrs. Lorne Richardson's home on Nov 28 with 10 mothers and 18 children. Officers elected include President Mrs. Jack Jenkins and Secretary Treasurer Mrs. C Robinson. Busy Bee's group names officers. A Christmas party is planned for Dec 19. A bazaar and silver tea organized by the W A in the Hall on Dec 8 with sales at 9 pm. Joyce Richardson weekend at home. Maxwell spent part of last week in Winnipeg.
The marriage of Margaret May Cummins and Jack Kirk Smith took place November 18 1960 at United Church manse Hamiota Manitoba with Rev A H A Barber officiating. The couple will reside in Rivers Manitoba after a wedding supper in Brandon and a brief honeymoon.
Dorothy Olive Hern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Hern, wed Edgar Waterfield of Rivers at Waterfield Hamiota United Church on Saturday November 25 at 2 30 pm. Rev A H E Barber officiated with Phyllis Park on music and Isabel Brereton singing During signing of the register. The bride was given in marriage.
