Manitoba Auto Wins International Energy Efficient Vehicle Honors

An energy efficient car entered by the University of Manitoba engineering team won top honors at an international competition at the GM Proving Ground in Milford Michigan. Project manager Jim Horner led the team to first place overall and in diesel, with second in overall energy efficiency. The Manitoba government funded 9600 toward the 40000 program, while Don Craik lauded the achievement and support from sponsors.

Seven Sisters Dam Repair Begins

Winnipeg Manitoba Hydro starts major repairs on the north dam at Seven Sisters Falls on the Winnipeg River. Dineen Construction Limited won the $1,486,994 contract. Work aims to finish by October 1980 with further rehabilitation planned through 1982. The forebay was lowered 3.5 feet affecting linked lakes and downstream stations.

Mines minister Brian Ransom announced crown land sales to commercial private tourist and industrial developers outside parks and forests.
