The district crown remains tied between Oak River and Kenton after a rainout. A deciding game was scheduled for Wednesday but canceled due to weather. Representatives then agreed to play Friday August 30 at six o clock in Kenton with hopeful crowds if conditions permit.
An engineer visited last week to assess a new drain through the town. He concluded the drain could be lowered enough to drain the cellars along Main Street, and the council will proceed with the adjustment.
Mr W B McLean C P R agent reports 75 Ontario farmers heading west to Hamiota. Help is scarce this fall due to railway work, so farmers should be ready or arrange a man. The Echo will assist in obtaining help. leave your name at the office.
About fifty members of the Metho dist Church Hamiota represented the choir and junior Bible class spent a Wednesday at the south end of Shoal Lake. The day featured football boating and bathing with sail and row boats in high demand. Amateur photographers captured smiles as picnickers enjoyed the outing and many headed home at dusk after a well spent day.
A six year old girl, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm Montgomery of Oak River, died after she fell on a fork at home. She was taken to Brandon Hospital where she died shortly after. Funeral services Wednesday were well attended.
The Misses Cochrane hosted a Wednesday evening event featuring a progressive enchre party. The competition awarded two punches on the enchre ticket to the first composer of a verse, with lively card games and Mayor Chambers winning the main prize.
W H Stewart offers to list farms for sale or purchase with favorable terms. He notes many wild and improved farms are available, promising home or speculative gains and adaptable terms. Correspondence is welcomed via Box 63 Crandell Man.
The Grand Trunk Pacific plans to carry western wheat this fall on its line west of Portage la Prairie with special forms for direct car shipments. Wheat from Saskatoon to Winnipeg is not guaranteed and the line from Portage to Winnipeg may not open this fall.
The Canadian Pacific plans to deploy 15,000 cars in the west to move this season's crop to Fort William and the Great Lakes. Extra motive power is being added to ensure rapid handling and continuous movement between grain country points and the lake terminals. Officials expect this fleet, properly managed, will keep grain moving as fast as it can be marketed.
