Fall Rye Cultivation and Seeding Guidelines

Farmers are urged to plant fall rye, noting its stability on drier western lands. Seeding should occur between August 15 and September 15, with September 16 ideal for light oils. Use 4 to 1 bushels per acre on fallow or stubble, seeding 2 to 3 inches deep, avoiding deep or loose-soil seeding and leaving rubble upright to reduce erosion and hold snow.
