Visit of Duke of Devonshire to Hamiet Planned Next Thursday
An event of local note is set for next Thursday when H R H the Duke of Devonshire Governor-General of Canada arrives in Hamiet to tour western agricultural districts. He is expected to land at Ilam and stay about an hour. Mrs Hanna wife of I H Hanna who serves in France died Wednesday at age 24. She was daughter of Mrs Ranchey Sr Crandall and of George Allan and Robi Ranchey. The funeral was today at Crandall cemetery.

Birth in Hamiota as Lockhart couple welcome son
A son was born on Tuesday August 20 1918 at Hamiota Manitoba to Mr and Mrs Lockhart. A meeting at MecConnell's Office last Friday formed a stoking brigade with P C W Raymer as secretary and J H McConnell F C Bennett and A Kerr on the committee. The hourly charge is 40 cents. Farmers needing help should contact the secretary immediately.

Obituary Notice for Herbert J Duddy of Hamiota Lodge
The casualty list for August 11 lists Herbert J Duddy as killed in action. Duddy, a member of Hamiota L O L No 1515 and R B P No 328, lived in Orillia Ontario with surviving parents. He enlisted at Estevan after returning west for harvest, served overseas, and was highly respected. A condolence letter was approved by lodge officers expressing sympathy to his parents.

Methodist Church Meeting in Shoal Lake District
The Financial District Meeting of the Methodist Church met in Shoal Lake on Monday afternoon and evening. Delegates Keva Price Crand Reynolds Miniota Spence Hamiota attended. Rain and poor roads reduced lay attendance. Rev J W Charehill Portage president spoke, with Rev J A Doyle North three western provinces superintendent, praising missionary work and US efforts.
