Wheat yields rise as early threshing starts in Hamiota
Wm Mathison drew the first new wheat of the season in Hamiota this week, though it was grown by Mrs Jas Mathison. Threshing began last Wednesday August 10, the earliest start in many years. Mrs Mathison’s second crop averaged 30 to 35 bushels per acre and 65 pounds per bushel. A church service is held at Christ Church Hamiota each Sunday at 7 PM, and a lost pair of Shell Rim Glasses can be left at Echo Office.

Forty Five Years of Progress in Canadian Pacific Trade
A modest artist and a second-hand dealer reveal a painting linking Canada’s past and present in Orient trade. The 1836 ship Abyssinia and the modern Empress of Japan are shown in proportional contrast, illustrating growth from 363 ft to 670 ft, tonnage from 3 376 to 26 000, and speeds from 15 to 23 knots. The Abyssinia’s charter owner later headed Fairfield Shipbuilding, which built the Empress of Japan.
