Editorial on Chartered Banks and Canadian Banking System
The Halifax Herald editorial argues that Canadian chartered banks operate under strict government oversight and provide extensive public service, noting wartime and transition-period contributions. It contends shifts like withdrawing copper-color nickels are controlled through banks, yet bankers deserve credit for public support and economy management. The piece cites bank lineups for government cheques as a key example of service.
