The notice advertises paints, oils, and thresher supplies with Sherwin Williams products. It highlights white lead and colors, lace leather in hides, and pricing like $1.20 per pound for Pure White Lead and colors. A 1 pound lace packet is offered at $1.00 with additional lace-on-market mentions.
Two of the district's leading fairs, Oak River and Harding, ran last week with strong attendance and record exhibits. Livestock including Aberdeen Angus cattle and high quality vegetables led the displays, while crowd enthusiasm offset limited hotel and livery facilities.
A Free Press reporter relays an expert assessment of the Hamiota area noting widespread soil moisture and clean lands. Wheat in the north and west is fair to good with potential over twenty bushels per acre on better plots. southern fields lighter with about fifteen bushels. Oats vary, local hay and root crops are fair, harvest begins in spots and will broaden in ten days.
John Long, about forty five, was found dead in a local barn near Oak River. Coroner and jury investigated foul play but heart failure was ruled the cause after Dr. Hudson’s post mortem. Inquest postponed until Winnipeg analysis confirms findings. Long was an Owen Sound native who had lived and worked in the district.
Oak River school lists top marks with Ali passing and six in entrance and five in part one third. Mervin Henderson and Gladys M Donald receive honors on the former and latter. New teachers include Miss Stewart Asseltine Currie Kenelda. Several pupils from Bankburn Maplewood and other schools posted good results. a death and local business change are noted.
