Seed Plant Mortgage Burns At Rivers Celebration
About 340 people attended a July 27 dinner at Oo-Za-We-Kwun Centre as the $38,000 mortgage on the Farmers' Co‑op Seed Cleaning Plant was burned. The plant began in 1958 with provincial loans and 500 shareholders, and has since expanded to process 200 bushels of wheat per hour and store nearly 11 000 bushels. The event honored long‑time board members and highlighted the plant's role serving farmers across the region.

Plans are being drawn for a Royal Bank of Canada branch in Hamiota with a potential site on Fourth Street. The town’s banking history dates to 1898 with Union Bank, joined RBC in 1925, and current manager is Paul S. August. A new site would require removing a historic landmark once home to C. W. Venables and The Hustler printing office. Core samples have been taken from the subsoil.
