Vanguard lentil plant planned by Notukeu Processors Inc

Fred McGuinness profiles Notukeu Processors Inc of Vanguard which plans a 1.5 million bushel lentil and chickpea cleaning and processing plant. The venture has 75 farmers funding 700000 of a 2 million dollar project, with rail service and local marketing by Walker Seeds of Tisdale and Prime Pro Seeds of Frontier. Six million bushels are produced within 70 miles of Vanguard, and pulses fit four year rotations improving soil nitrogen.

Jackie Mathison is the new manager of the Hamiota Echo office joining Nesbitt Publishing. She brings a outgoing personality and business skills, recently returning to work and adapting to weekly deadlines and public interaction. She lives near Decker with husband Jesse and children Allyson and Austin. Marcie Harrision previously ran the office and remains with Nesbitt Publishing handling layout and occasional stories. Wanda Strachan continues weekly news items and features, filling in at the Echo office. Office hours are Monday to Wednesday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday 9:30 a.m. to noon.
