Dr J E Hudson Receives Judge George Award

Manitoba Health Organization awarded Dr J E Hudson with the Judge J M George Memorial Award at the International Inn Winnipeg. The citation honored decades of service to Manitoba health including leadership roles with the Manitoba Medical Association and the College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Manitoba Plans Pensioner Property Tax Deferral Program

Finance Minister Saul Miller announced a deferral plan to prevent pensioners from losing their homes due to rising realty taxes. Municipalities will administer and be repaid via deferrals. the plan aims for in-year implementation alongside existing tax credits boosting the 1977 maximum to 375 dollars.

Farewell Evening for McConnell Moves to Hamiota

A farewell event at Mc Connell Community Centre on April 20 honored Mr and Mrs Harvey Pangman and Mr and Mrs Earl Johnston as they relocate to Hamiota. Earle and Peggy received a silver tray and figurine, Harvey and Dot a wall clock and lighter, with eleven tables of whist and prizes won by Olive Newton Bert Baldwin Bob King and Earle Johnston.

Shoal Lake Royal York Chapter No 30 O E S names Sister Dorothy Hudson as official delegate to Grand Chapter of Manitoba Sessions May 29 to June 1. The program includes church service informal meeting election and installation of officers. Visits to Oak Lake Neepawa noted. Proceeds from a red embroidered tablecloth draw aid Eastern Star Training Award for Religious Leadership and Cancer Research. Draw to be held at October Tea in Hamiota.

Manitoba faces an unusually dry spell prompting Labour Minister Russ Paulley to urge citizens to avoid outdoor fires in urban rural and wooded areas. He warns that burning garbage grass bonfires and any open flames are unwise until the dry spell ends.

Rebekahs Report from Hamiota Assembly Sessions

In March the lodge chartered a bus to Winnipeg for Assembly Sessions with about twenty five participants and seven staying for activities. The Assembly President presented a framed certificate for community service. Donations were made to Muscular Dystrophy and March of Dimes. In April Mrs. Elsie Nordstrom visited from Minnedosa. Plans announced for the Assembly President’s May 9 visit and District Meeting in Oak River on May 10.

U C W Meet April Meeting at Foxton Home

The April U C W meeting gathered 11 members at Mrs. Raymond Foxton's home. Mrs. Harold Hunter opened with a thought for the day and March minutes were read by Mrs. Lou Cochran. Group 2 led worship and an Easter service, two hymns were sung, hospital report given, and Tea and Bake Sale volunteers listed. Lunch was served by Mrs. Gerald Knight and Mrs. Bruce Knight.
