Craig Stewart Seeks Re Nomination At PC Meeting
Craig Stewart MP for Marquette stated he will allow his name to stand for nomination at the upcoming PC convention. He criticized the Trudeau government for neglecting Western Canada and said defeating the government is a major reason for running again. The nomination meeting is set for May 1 at Buffalo Plains Inn Shoal Lake with Jack McIntosh as guest speaker.

The April Ladies Club meeting at Mildred and Kath leen’s home featured Pearl’s worship service with the theme New life through love. Scripture was Matthew 27, and the Easter reflection followed with Hymn 112. A Hospital Tea plan for May 10 1972 in Chumah Hall was set with quilt ticket draws won by Bernice Lewis.

Art Tea Draws Large Crowd in Hamiota Display
In Hamiota the Art Tea and Display showcased 16 members led by Mrs. Lawson at the Fraternal Hall. Paintings spanned oils pastels watercolors and more with life landscapes animals and flowers, while UCW Unit 3 catered the event under Mrs. Gordon Killoh. Approximately 330 guests signed the guest book throughout the day.

Supper Meeting of Hamiota Ladies Curling Club
The Hamiota Ladies Curling Club held an April 10 rink supper meeting with about 87 members attending. A busy year was reported including a Curling School led by Bryan Wood in November and hosting the Ladies Playdowns in January. The senior district winners from Rivers and Winnipeg selections join a list of club champions and new officers Norah Mathison as President and Norma Sheardown as Vice President.

Oak River All Stars finish a 35 game season with 27 wins and 8 losses to capture the Foxton Trophy. They defeated Minto in the finals after sweeping Pierson and Miniota and Angusville, led by MVP Lyle Dennison and award winners Brian Bridgeman and Greg Thompson.

Explorers Meet After School at Church
The Explorers gathered April 11 after school with 13 members present. The treasurer reported a balance of 29.50 dollars and Mrs Sclater read a thank you letter from Mrs Dunn of The Maples for Christmas donations. A study on Prayer preceded Worship Service. Next meeting set for April 18.

Celebration Planned for Mr John B Youngson 92nd Birthday
Mr John B Youngson formerly of Decker will celebrate his 92nd birthday on April 28 1972. Born April 28 1881 in Bonshire Scotland he came to Canada in 1926 and settled in Decker. He served as caretaker of Decker School No 320 and rang the big bell for farmers. He keeps a 1956 school gift watch and memory of church service at Gratis. He remains in good health and a member of Haig and Haig. His son lives at Ste 3 173 Osborne St Winnipeg.
