First Nations policing making a difference
Constable Rick Sanderson, a Cree RCMP officer, leads a Dakota First Nation satellite detachment at Carry-the-Kettle in Saskatchewan. He launched driver education, child restraint, garden, and community service programs and helped establish a non profit recreation centre. The program links five communities under a federal provincial agreement aimed at culturally sensitive policing across Canada. The initiative is praised by RCMP and government officials as a model of community driven policing.
