Tax relief urged as cure for rising tax evasion

The Association of Manitoba Taxpayers argues that Canada’s high tax burden drives widespread evasion and demands a rapid overall tax reduction. Spokesman Peter Holle cites a Peat Marwick Thorne survey showing 62 percent upset or resentful toward taxation and half of Canadians willing to pay cash to dodge the GST. The group says lower taxes would restore moral authority and boost legitimate economic activity.
