Obituary Owen James Bennett 72 of Abbotsford B C
Owen James Bennett 72 of Abbotsford B C died suddenly at home on March 1. A former Hamota and Strathclair resident, he was a clothing merchant and later gained fame for oil paintings and poetry. His book Cloth Of Gold was published in Vancouver in 1950. He is survived by his wife three sons and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs Thos Jarrett at Hamiota United Church on March 18 after she died March 14 in Hamiota Hospital. Interment followed in Scotia Cemetery. Born in 1888 in Surrey England, she moved to Canada in 1914 and lived in Scotia then Hamiota since 1947. Surviving husband Thos, three daughters and several in laws, pallbearers named.

Hamiota United Church Choir Presents Annual Negro Spiritual
The United Church Choir staged The Ancient Negro Spiritual on Sunday evening March 24 at 7 p.m. Frank McKinnon led several sections with Edith Ann Russell assisting. The men's segment featured an unaccompanied duet by McKinnon and Randell, plus a quartet by McKinnon Randell Reg Hedley and Bob Hedley.
