Demand Overtaking Supply in North American Oil
Counsel C H O Halloran warned during the British Columbia fuel commission sessions that consumption outstrips supply. He cited US coal reserves about 3.5 trillion tons and 4,800 years of supply at current use, gas enough for 20 years, and petroleum at 13 billion barrels equal to 14 years of demand. He warned oil could be exhausted in a few years. Macdonald suggested gasoline from coal as a future possibility, noting Ottawa research efforts.
