Western district notes on port Portland and Hamilton
A lengthy, satirical colonial-era report discusses Hamilton and Western district prospects. It critiques Portland as an export port for wheat, argues for a direct rail and port link, and urges closer settlement, agricultural training, and industrial development to boost rural population and regional output. It highlights farmers, soldiers, and local governance, calling for practical policies and cheaper shipping.
