A Guyra Rod Fishers Club meeting held Tuesday night September 20 at Memorial feature discussed awarding a fishing tackle prize to the member enrolling the most new members by November 40. A Fly Casting Competition is planned at Arandaig Hatchery on Sunday with the Urandangia Cup featured. Handicapping and judging roles were assigned, and cooperation with police to monitor streams was approved.
The Band in Guyra formed about a year ago has earned local appreciation as a stable community institution. Eighteen members meet regularly improving standards, with plans for a contest at Bendemur on October Wb. Members will perform a March Selection and Waltz with prizes for best performances. Public support, including attendance at a scheduled dance on the 23rd, is urged and Bandmaster Skinner of Tamworth will adjudicate.
Owing to rain on Sunday afternoon play in the 18 hole stroke competition was abandoned. The Richardson Cup return match at Armidale saw the local team delisted by five matches in two. The Associates Tournament opened yesterday at Armidale Club with large fields. Mrs Smart won B Grade 1 down and Mian Newman took B Grade 2 down.
Arcadia Theatre Guyra hosts a Friday September 30 concert at 8 pm to raise funds for M A 1 0 C F Fonda. Local talents perform musical items a farce and community singing with prices 2 shillings and 2 shillings 6 pence children free and half price tickets noted.
A meeting of the New England Potato Growers Association will be held at the Oddfellows Hall in Guyrs on Saturday the 24th at 2 30 p m. Business includes a report from the delegate to the Annual Potato Growers Council meeting and any other business. Secretary J WEAN.
The Annual Catholic Ball at Arcadis Theatre showcased debutantes presented to Bishop Coleman of Armidale. A second night for children featured many fancy costumes with prizes, dances, and a grand march led by Mr G Mason. Jeweled dresses, pink bouquets, and a large supper marked a bustling social event with awards and thanks to organizers and helpers.
