Postwar Potato Industry Stabilisation Plan Urged
Member for Tenterfield M F Bruxner urged the Farmers Union to back a postwar plan for stabilising potato marketing. He warned against middlemen exploiting prices and called for a national Potato Growers Association with federal and state committees, to be ready for implementation as war ends. The move aims to prevent a return to wartime price exploitation and ensure orderly marketing across the Commonwealth. The plan requires consultations with growers, delegate conferences, and relevant legislation.

Growers Protest Over Selling Commission on Early Potatoes
The Potato Growers Association Council condemned the Prices Commission ruling deducting selling commission from growers’ sales of the season’s early potatoes in New South Wales. A telegram protesting the decision was to be sent to the Australian Potato Committee and the Prices Commissioner at Canberra. The meeting also urged soil conservation and rehabilitation of paddocks, noting the department’s promise of a developmental station and the need for broader soil conservation measures.
