On Sunday night at about 7 p.m. a motor accident at Malpas sirset opposite the Vicarage injured two well known residents Mrs T Dean and Mr Lauder. Both were crossing the street when a car swerved to avoid collision and struck them. Mrs Dean suffered severe abrasions and shock but is improving at home. Mrs Lauder was taken to Marooma Weivate Hospital with serious injuries. on Monday her condition was grave but improving by today. Community sympathy flows for both women and hopes for full recovery.
Morning fire at Tattersall’s Hotel rear led to discovery of a blaze in the New State Stores power house. Baker W J Litle raised alarm, others helped extinguish. Manager Alex Hay estimates damage around £200. Police investigate as the cause remains a mystery.
Seward business continuation announced by Gyd Seward wishes to notify friends and the public that the house painting decorating and paperhanging firm continues the business formerly run by the late Samuel Seward and Son. All work guaranteed and promptly executed orders may be addressed at Argos Offer Goyra until further notice.
A Saturday meeting at Messrs A A Brown & Co. discussed farewell plans for Macars H FE Shaw and D K Telfer and Dr J S Harris. An executive of five was chosen and subscriptions urged with a deadline of November 7. A Tuesday night gathering at Mr Ray Wilson's Bicycle Shop elected officers for a new Bicycle Club led by Lieut.-Colonel H. F. White as Patron and Mr Gillies as President. Road races are planned for Wednesday with events including a 4 mile and 1 mile. Prizes donated by Mr Roberts included 1s for a recent race won by M. Turner. At Fleetwood sea walls yielded flooding streets with four bodies recovered. Wrecks reported on multiple coasts and many fishing boats feared lost.
