In the absence of an engineer the shire clerk J Richardson surveyed monthly works and urged modern road making plant. He recommended five ton trucks of the same make, improved loaders, and possibly three diesel patrol graders to keep secondary roads in transportable condition. The council adopted the recommendations after noting potential Department of Main Roads support.

A heifer prize donated by L J Reeves drew Cyril Jones as winner. Reeves also collected many entries and the total receipts reached 17 pounds 12 shillings plus 16 shillings from a Monte Carlo waltz All takings were donated to the hospital fund.
