Arcadia Stores of Guyra invites customers to request a free booklet detailing current selections and promotions. The promo highlights new product lines and savings available for a limited time, with contact methods provided to obtain the booklet.
The council considers opening an engineer’s finance account to cover weekly expenses around £250 for road works. Proposed works include culverts at the hill and Me Leodts Flat, a new 12 ft span culvert costing about £176, redecking of Guy Fawkes Bridge at £130, and other drainage improvements. Damages and sharing of costs between shires and Main Roads are outlined, with action recommended to proceed promptly.
Council meetings discuss Tin gha area works including Tingha bridge, sewerage depot, and road improvements. Reports cover drainage, sanitary conditions, garbage and rubbish depots, and inspections of shops, halls, and kitchens. Also notes staff licenses, immunisation planning, and department replies on grants and crossings.
Empire Day was celebrated Friday by pupils of the public school with parents present. Speakers included Captain Jon Army and Mra J. Surry, delivering readings and poems while the programme featured Kipling’s Recessional, infant songs, Song of Australia, goodwill messages, and poems. Plaintiff’s counsel Q A Biddulph Mackengie and Biddulph appeared. defendant’s counsel Harrie won Weaver Gentle Harrison Argydale. Verdict for plaintiff for £3 with costs. Further particulars deferred to next day.
Arcadia Theatre presents the longest sound picture yet released and a unique Shakespearean film. On Saturday the program features Verree Teasdale and others in a visual feast blending romance humor and music with Mendelssohn’s Wedding March. Also includes shorts and a second feature Carnival with Sally Eilers Lee Tracy and Jimmy Durante plus Public Hero No 1 with Lionel Barrymore Jean Arthur and Chester Morris.
May 6 at Ashfield Presbyterian Church the Rev R J H McGowan officiated at the marriage of Edward Boyd of Corn West Maitland and Jean Margaret Youman of Guyra Roschill. The couple are the children of Mr and Mrs J Warren Scobie and Mr and Mrs Thomas Youman.
Willard Centre announces the transfer of Police Scrut, Willard, to Laverell, taking over duties at the latter centre early next month. Formerly stationed at Guyra, he serves after a long constable career. A farewell afternoon for Tay Douglas at Mrs Ormby’s residence featured a crystal dressing table clock gift and pink carnations. Douglas departs for Sydney to study at Ascham College.
