Collision driver fined after lorry crash at Guyra

Victor Vyner Vickery was fined 3 pounds 10 shillings and costs after a Guyra Police Court hearing for negligent driving in a crash between his motor vehicle and a stationary lorry on December 2. Witnesses described poor weather and a wet road as factors. Vickery claimed he was blinded by oncoming traffic.

Rural Labour Shortage Tied to Education and Housing Needs

A survey of 54 farmers in Macintyre Shire shows rural labour shortages are most urgent due to inadequate education facilities and living accommodation, plus poor roads and town amenities. It notes larger farms face bigger labour problems, especially where distant from towns and housing is inadequate, with postwar declines in dairying and pig raising.
