The State electorate returns the McKell government to power with a strong mandate but no clear postwar reconstruction plan. Douglas John Kleindeinst aged 28 pleaded guilty at Armidale Quarter Sessions to stealing about £80 from the Royal Hotel Guyra. He faced a second charge of receiving. Judge P V Storkey ordered bond of £2 with two years good behavior, alcohol abstinence, no liquor venues, and not AWL from the Army.
