Rugby league fans faced disappointment last Sunday as Uralla failed to appear for a scheduled McGee Cup challenge against Guyra. Glen Innes now holds the Robinson Shield, with matches lined up against Uralla Waicha Guyra and Bellingen as rivals.
Guyra and Tingha squads prepare for Sunday matches with A grade for the Duke of Clarence Cup and a B grade trophy event. Teams include Lumowsi Parry Archibald Dowdell Tarrant and Dowdell among others. A 40 seater bus departs Guyra at 10 am and bookings are needed with KI Dowdell.
Weather halted play last weekend as no matches occurred and travel to Guyra was blocked. Three games are planned for the coming weekend with a Saturday 12 pm start in Guyra against University, and Armidale Centrals visiting on Sunday. A men’s Armidale team meets Guyra at 1.30 pm with selected players listed and reserves named.
After weeks of weather and illness interruptions Saunders Cup play continued last Sunday with Archibald leading his team to a two point victory over Whiteford. The club plans a forthcoming four skip match and discusses member lists, finances, and trips to Queensland as the N E D B A holds an August meeting at Guyra.
North Hill Armidale defeated Guyra 21 sets to 18 in Guyra on Sunday. Singles and doubles results feature L Leahy J Kelly against R Williams V Williams and Frank Newberry K Set, with C Crampton R McIntyre another key pairing. many mixed doubles show Mrs Hanlan Mowle and others in action.
The Roberts Cup match committee will be asked to increase play in the championship singles and pairs. Attending were L. P. Archibald president A Pryor J Whiteford K Parsons J Rudd M McMillan J Hiscox B Smith R Hudson J Richardson hon sec. Absent were P Roberts T Caddy E Pryor.
