Winter spraying method recommended for grape black spot
Viticul turist M Blunne advises a winter dressing to prevent black spot in grapevines. Use a solution of three quarters of a pint strong sulphuric acid in two pints water, add acid to water slowly in a non metal vessel, prune vines first, then daub stems and buds. Apply about a year before buds open, and repeat if outbreak was strong. In spring, spray Bordeaux mixture for foliage protection. Prunings burnt. rain does not wash away dried acid. Pump options include copper or glass, costs around £2 10s in Sydney, or secure similar pumps via ironmongers.
