The Guyra Argus notes the death of Edward Michael Hanlon, premier of Queensland since 1946, at age 64. A former railway worker and Labor activist from 1912, he was a steady advocate for trade union values and public welfare, earning wide respect across Australia for his service.
Mr Hughes announced planned study huts at training camps to help students who deferred exams. He said arrangements with the Army Minister ensure properly equipped huts at camps and 14 days’ special leave before exams to give parity with peers not in National Service. The RAAE will provide special provisions for university students' examinations.
The County Market and Branch of the Agricultural Bureau schedules two events in the North West. On February 20 1952 at the Hays Bros property Bexley there will be an Animal Husbandry Field Day with speakers including Gordon Kirkby T C M Robinson and Department of Agriculture researchers. A Ladies session and a general program run from 1 am, with lunch and hot water provided. A Machinery Field Day follows on February 26 at the Burgevie property Warlalda Railway featuring leading agents from Inverell and Ware Nalda to demonstrate tractors and machinery.
The north and northwest centers recorded rainfall well below normal in December. Readings show Armidale 180 with 16 points below average, Fendemeer 197 with 135 below, Tamworth 58 with 240 below, and other towns such as Glen Innes, Urals, Waicha, and Bunerarra also significantly under the norm.
