Wein leads a successful New Year races and sports day by the Ongwibinda Progress Association. A near record attendance despite drought. Guyra Brass Band and Gordon Black's Orchestra supplied music. prizes and donations listed. events included horse racing scrubs and novelty runs with local competitors.
Tenterden was the only club to send a team to the Guyra Rifle Range last Saturday for a competition against Guyra and Ben Lomond. The Tenterden team fired from the 500 yard mound with ten shots to count, scoring Youmans 46, Mould 45, Arentz 45, Cook 44, Jackson 41, Baxter 38, Rumming 34, Manuel 32.

BOAC announces an initial order for five larger Avon engine Comet 3 jets to form its express trans Atlantic fleet with options for more aircraft. The Comet 3 carries 58 passengers, cruises over 500 mph, and can cross the Atlantic in far less time than piston aircraft, boosting fleet capacity significantly. Canadian Pacific Airlines orders three Comet Series 7 jets with a fourth option, for trans Pacific service Vancouver to Sydney, delivery expected in 1954.
