The Country Golf Club held an anniversary event with 16 holes and a strong early field. E. O. Garnhy and Mrs. Vorwain won with a net 74, followed by F. Ridulph and Miss Martha Melon on 74. Details list many pairs and scores. The second meeting was at Arcadia Cafe with large turnout and new year officers elected. A new two-hole lake extension was approved to lengthen the course. Open day set for March tenth and an invitation sent to clubs.
The Guyra Golf Club committee agrees to start the season on March 14 with the first round of the taney competition for the vet. The handicap manager asks associates to submit at least two cards by February 2 so handicaps can be readjusted before play begins. Those failing to comply will play at half their current handicap until cards are received.
An Amateur Dramatic Society plans community theatre to raise funds for local charities and scenery. The first production, A Matrimonial Milena, will star local amateurs, with a dance tomorrow night at the M.O. Hall offering supper and modest charges to support preliminary expenses.
The Victorian Yale Conference reports Joe backing a four day week proposal and a twenty five percent wage rise as part of the agenda.
The Rev A Morris Yates will conduct services at Brockley Li om and Llangothlin. School duties resumed with strong attendances. Auctioneers Brown and Co will hold a cattle sale at the showyard on Tuesday 24 February. Police seek Estelle Taylor of Tamworth, mother of George Taylor, after a report from Peak Hill. Exhibitor entries for the exhibition close 3 February with strong agricultural and horse classes and noted flowers and fruit. Armidale and New England Jockey Club reports a promising cup meeting with expected large attendance. Anniversary Night at MAUSOLO TV featured 75 couples dancing with extensive hall decorations and a large streamer tally. Rev Kingsies Patridge MLA of Alice Springs will lecture in Cuyra 7 February on ALM activities in Central and Northern Australia. Arcadia Theatre program includes vocal and instrumental items with noted performers and a mass band. An all day street stall is planned for 25 February to fund a rest room for Northern Tablelands women and children. NOMINATIONS open for rest room group posts for 25 February with required signatures. Mr Hand plans a round-Australia bicycle trek from Sydney. event may take a month with rough weather noted and an incident with a snake injuring his leg.
Kathleen Kane and George Cochrane wed at St James Church in Kinglanil Guyra on a Saturday night. The bride wore white georgette with a wreath and veil, carried gladioli and sweet peas, and was given in marriage by her brother-in-law. The reception followed at W Primes Cafe with about 25 guests. The couple plans a Brisbane and Sydney return trip by boat.
In St Columba’s Presbyterian Church on a Wednesday evening January 25 Rev E N Mekkie officiated a marriage between Trene Emily Nielsen and Lionel Malcolm Pearson Cayra. The couple met at Arcadia Cafe reception and honeymooning in Sydney and Brisbane with future home at Guyra. Probate notice follows in New South Wales Supreme Court will of John Esmonde Snape.
The annual meeting of the Guyra Country Club will be held at Briggs Cafe on February 6 at 8 pm. Business includes adoption of the balance sheet and election of officers and committee. Alan W. J. Bennett is the honorary secretary.
