Attlee Budget Signals Hard Times For Britain
The Attlee budget is portrayed as tightening sacrifices for Britons six years after victory. It envisions higher taxes and prices, manpower directed to essential industries, and clampdowns on luxuries while urging Australians to share in the defense effort. Production in coal steel and iron must rise, with a 40 hour week as a path to democracy and saved lives.
