Food Shortages in Britain Highlighted by VAD Visiting Armidale
Royal Navy VADs Dora Brown and Marjorie Williams visited Armidale and spoke of Britain's dire food shortage. They described rationing of meat to 11d weekly per person, limited eggs, milk below a pint weekly for adults, and scarce fruit and transport. They recalled letters from home and urged sending dried fruits, tinned cheese, jams, sugar, and tea, noting parcels boosted spirits and aided service men on leave.
