Mrs Kilfoyle licensee of Tatter gall's Hotel Dubbo fell victim to a swindle after ordering tea from a Sydney firm. An agent faked a cheque authorisation leading to two forged payments of 14 pounds 10 shillings and 70 pounds. Police investigate with an arrest expected.
A general meeting was announced for Monday night at Tatter calls Hotel, with Hon. Secretary T. M. Gover n urging attendance. A Liberal address by Mn I J Hinotsis described as forceful covered land policy, freehold versus leasehold, power of the Labour government, and capital punishment, with praise for Mr Wade and criticism of Mr Willis.
A speech by Mr. Higgins labels monopolies as myths and argues for Federal or State control in business. He proposes municipal hospital funding via shire taxes, bush nursing, ambulance services, and maternity wards to reduce infant mortality, citing Lincoln on cradle building as nobler than battleships. For March the Black Mountain Dairy Company processed 26,868 pounds of butter up from the prior month. Cream shipments by rail doubled the previous record, with total output a company record since inception. Directors pledged suppliers 70 pounds nett for March with large coastal rivals not reaching this figure. Top three cheques totaled 64 pounds 1s 1d, 62 pounds 14s 11d, and 52 pounds 9s 6d.
