St Josephs Grenfell announces Sunday services with first Mass at sunrise and second Mass typical morning devotion times. June and July dates listed with morning prayers and related notices for parishioners.
Visiting optician Mr D J Bono of London will visit Orange on Thursday June 13. Appointments may be arranged at Edwards Pharmacy consulting room, Royal Hotel.
A memorial conference at Orange discussed plans to honor the late Sir Neville Howse with a memorial bust at the base hospital and a parliamentary stone. The meeting, led by the Grenfell Sub-branch, formed a Sir Neville Howse Memorial Committee and opened subscriptions, with initial pledges including £5 5s. The mayor of Orange chaired, and prominent officials and soldiers’ league leaders were invited to join.
A Prague Morning Post report describes a secret hollow Napoleonic chess set displayed at a Czecho-Slovak exhibition in Austerlitz. The pieces allegedly held escape instructions from St Helena, sent by Napoleons friends. A British officer died at sea, leaving the secret hidden until it reached Napoleon s son, the Duke of Reichstadt, and later Princess Paleologue who lent the set to the exhibit.
At Livensit Court on Wednesday plans for converting the Royal Hotel billiard room into a lounge were noted. Mr Kelly stated lounge rooms exist upstairs and downstairs, and he recalled the room once being well patronised by a “good class” clientele in the afternoons and evenings. The magistrate reflected that those good days may be gone.
Mr HR Miller secretary of the New South Wales Rugby League says sentiment has no place in business and the league will not fund Group 9’s Queensland match. He notes rain spoiled the game but states the match was their responsibility and the league must balance the budget.
