From May 1 until further notice there will be one Mass daily at St. Joseph's at 8 o'clock. Country Masses follow on the first Sunday at Pallabooks 10:20 a.m., second Sunday at Carasabal 10:30 a.m., third Sunday at Piney Range 10:30 a.m., and fourth Sunday at Bimb 10:30 a.m. All other parish arrangements remain as usual. Wool buyers expect Brisbane sales for the fortnight with about 2,880,000 bales offered across Sydney Brisbane Victoria Adelaide Perth and Tasmania. The 1982/3 season opens August 20 in Sydney with large later pre Christmas quotas and a forecast of continued high production amid uncertain prices.

Britain reports enormous progress in artificial silk, with output more than doubling to 48.8 million pounds yearly by 1924 and employment rising from under 40,000 to over 60,000. Factories expand, with 20,000 to 25,000 more workers and new plants under construction, signaling a major industry expansion and optimistic outlook.
At Auburn the Federal Labor candidate P E Coleman spoke as the declaration of the poll was read. He argued the witt Lang party won the election and pledged to tackle unemployment. He warned that without reasonable tolerance Labor could fail and warned against dictatorship. He noted CAP candidate Wilkin conceded to Labor and said he would accept the election verdict. Lang was absent at the declaration.
A claimed world record fat calf weighing 822 pounds was killed by Mr M B Farmer and bred by Mr Claude Links. Farmer, with 32 years of global experience, says he has never seen such fat. The animal, not pure bred, was fed on pollard milk and bran and viewed at Palmer’s butchery in Macquaries Street.
