Ice carnival proves a brilliant social and financial success
Despite bitter cold the ice carnival at the skating rink, run by the Daughters of the Empire, drew a large crowd and about 100 skaters in costume. Prizes went to many entrants from Mrs. H Niles to Dr. Acres and Migs Kerman, with Mrs. J B McLeod and James Clarke among top winners. The event netted roughly $140 for the society.

Soldiers to entertain Phoenix before coast departure
The Independent Company of Rifles about 65 strong will travel to Phoenix on Monday January 24 for a farewell concert before sailing to the coast. A special train will depart Union Depot at 6 30 p m with return fare. The concert will be followed by a dance and officers in Grand Forks may address Phoenicians about recruiting for their units.

Fatal railway accident on new bridge claims two lives
A west end Grand Forks tragedy on the P R steel bridge left Mrs. Josephine E. Webster dead and her son Arthur Webster injured after an eastbound freight struck them on the bridge at about 4 PM last Sunday. The pair, accompanying Mrs. Webster home, were swept by the train as it rounded a curve. helpers rushed them to hospital where Mrs. Webster died that evening and Arthur remained under care with a fractured wrist, dislocated elbow, and sprains. Train crew reported attempting to stop but conditions and frost impaired braking. Electric signal reportedly rang at the crossing but cold weather may have muffled the warning.
