Britain’s Invasion Fear Revealed In Embezzlement Case
A Kalgoorlie Miner report notes that in 618 a secret government scheme prepared for invasion payments involved sealed drafts sent to inspectors. Lionel Bowles, an assistant inspector for the Ministry of Munitions, was committed for trial for embezzling £750 by cashing drafts and redirecting funds to his account. The case uncovers the grim wartime menace once feared by Britons and the misuse of emergency funds.

Milk production: early good feeding boosts heifer maturity
Mr C. Howard reports from NSW Agriculture Bureau on heifer growth and milk yield. Well nourished heifers reach mature weight sooner, breed at 17 to 20 months if conditions allow, or 24 to 27 months with slower growth. Larger cows generally produce more milk, though inheritance also matters. Very young calving reduces size and milk capacity, while well grown cows calving at 26 to 30 months mature later but yield more.
