Northam Municipal Council Meeting Notes Jetty Request and Finances
Northam municipal council met with Mayor A W Byfield and councillors present. A request from the Northam Rowing Club sought spare timber for a jetty at the boat house, referred to the Works Committee. The Fire Brigade Board reported insufficient funds for a new station. Dr Harveson criticized this. Financials showed balances in several accounts totaling about 3,462 pounds 15s 2d with various loan and electric light accounts.

War loan stock boom on Sydney Melbourne exchange
Week ending August 14 saw strong demand for gilt edged war loan securities on the Sydney and Melbourne Stock Exchange. Commonwealth Loans 1925 and 1927 issues attracted buyers with returns around 5½ to 6 percent including redemption, outperforming other gilt edges. Instalment subscribers may gain about 5 percent, while full payments yield similar or higher gains depending on timing and redemption.
