Northam market on Tuesday held by Messrs Elder Shenton and Co Ltd saw a quiet yarding of well conditioned local sheep and cautious demand. Prices reached 30s for crossbred ewes with lambs 85 per cent, wethers to 25s, store wethers to 22s 8d, hoggets to 20s, ewe hoggets to 25s. Cattle and pigs moved sparingly with cows and calves to L15 10s, sows to L3, baconers to L20s, porkers 23s to 30s. Firm traded 4637 sheep 119 pigs 25 cattle 3 horses. sales 1218 sheep 59 pigs 3 cattle 3 horses.

Residents asked to supply about forty cakes and cigarettes for the troops with drop points at Town Hall Sunday 3 to 5 pm or to Mesrs Chidlow Byfield or Carter Saturday.

Northam Municipal Council Debates £2000 Reconstruction Loan
The Northam Municipal Council held its fortnighly meeting on the evening of 18th ingt. Present were Mayor A W Byfield and councillors Dunkley Purslowe Withnell Edmondson Mitchell Cook Hunter and Eastman. After correspondence Dr Dunkley moved to raise a loan of £2000 for reconstruction work. Dr Withnell seconded and Dr Hunter opposed with figures. The motion was defeated.
