The Northam market shows firm demand amid a meat shortage with slow yards and strong selling for fat stock. Strong quotations include weaners 7s 6d to 10s 6d, ewes 12s, merino rams L2 10s to L3 3s, and a sale of 1972 sheep, 27 pigs, and a head of cattle.
Dalgety and Co., Limited held its usual fortnightly market at Northam on Tuesday. A large turnout of buyers attended though bidding was not brisk. most of the yarded sheep, with two pens excluded, sold at satisfactory prices. Sales included comeback ewes in killable condition at 16s 3d and store ewes at 12s 3d, weaners at 14s 10d, with 632 sheep sold.
About 11 am Tuesday a thunderstorm touched Canderdin district three and a half miles north. A gang of 12 men laying a water supply extension in a seven chain radius were struck by lightning, many knocked to the ground and dazed. Three workers suffered the worst blows. one hammer was knocked from a man's hand and another walked several chains with no memory of moving.

Afternoon tea and a dance capped the day with Ben Bros. of Northam providing music.
The Exhibition committee facing shipping disruptions postpones the event until shipping trouble is settled. Extra effort will be pushed to ensure a huge success. Mr Matin will address farmers on wheat fertilisation and demo patents to cut costs and raise profits. Ladies committees meet weekly at Coop Stores to advance their work.
Dalgety and Co record auction results dated January 1498 with 781 sheep 1613 lambs 469 nigs 84 cattle yarded at Midland Junction. Yarding mainly aged ewes in medium condition, opening sales near last week, market steady for good wethers but ewe values fell about 3s per head as progress continued.
