Deputation Pushes Columbia Valley Route to Yukon

A Golden and Donald deputation urged the Dominion Government to study the Columbia Valley inland route to the Yukon. They argued the path via Edmonton, Yellowhead Pass and Tete Jaune Cache would be shorter and open rich lands. Minister Sifton promised full enquiry and consideration.

East Kootenay Pioneer Tom Jones Noted for Mining Claims

Tom Jones, praised by Capt Armstrong, arrived in the Upper Columbia valley in 1883. He discovered the Delos claim on Horsethief Creek and located extensions including Alice, with interests on Spillimachine Mountain and North Fork spills. He owns a Galena ranch and eyes Klondyke travel next spring amid mining activity.

Winter layoff at International mine and mixed regional notes

Townsend shuts down work at the International for winter. An assay on W. G. Neilson’s Beaver property shows trace gold, $4 silver and 14 percent copper.
