The Golden Era announces weekly issue on Saturday May 22 1897 with rates and policies for advertising. It notes plans to enlarge the paper under new management and urges government action on dyking and floods affecting Golden farms, plus support for East Kootenay politics and local mining interests. It mentions Mr Wells as Liberal candidate and a farmers meeting to petition Mr Bostock for flood-control work.
In January a dispute arose when a buyer agreed to take over a printing business linked to Golden Era. The seller Mr. Rae disputed the arrangement, asserting misdeeds by Mr. Bostock and the buyer, while the new managing director locked out Rae and defended actions in court.
Public notice states Mr. D. M. Rie is not connected with the management of the Golden Era and that only an authorized person may sign contracts or collect payments for the proprietary company.
