Thunder Hill Mine Closure Clarified by Company Letter

James Brappy states in a letter that Thunder Hill mine and mill shutdowns in 1893 were due to lack of funds to finish reduction works, not ore scarcity. The delay coincided with the silver panic, when many mining ventures halted and financing dried up. Some reduction plant components were en route from Chicago.

Str Watson of the Koote nay and Northwest Railway Company known as The Golden Era Air Line arrived in Golden with his engineering outfit. He will await instructions and would not provide definite information yet. The proposed line would run from the American boundary to the Yukon, potentially backed by Great Northern interests to open vast western territories of eastern British Columbia.

Steam Fire Engine Exhibition Impresses Golden Town

A second exhibition led by Mr. Parsons showcased a steam fire engine with 80 pounds steam pressure and over 160 pounds water pressure. Walter Houston, about 14, operated the engine as it easily maintained strong fire streams surpassing 200 feet, while officials urged a proper fire hall to safeguard this powerful equipment for Golden’s population.
