B C General Merchants and Local Notables In Town

A carload of furniture and Massey Harris agricultural implements arrives as B C General Merchants (Alexander Block) promotes goods. Calgary jeweller F Pyman may set Golden as headquarters. Four jewellers visit Golden this week. Miss Monteith and Miss Simpson join hospital staff. Simpson comes from Winnipeg with Medicine Hat experience.

Donald town notes drift with dances and repairs

Dances draw crowds on Thursdays with 25 couples and supper by Mr Freemantle. Plastering in the McNeish Block proceeds led by Calgary plasterer Mr Wynne. he decorates principal rooms with centre flowers and cornices. Community updates include street grading delays, a two story house contract, and several town visits from CPR staff, sheriff, and engineers. A windstorm sparks debate on its identity with a local poet’s quip.

Goldey lies on the CP Rail mainline at the river steamboat junction with the Columbia River. It serves as a commercial centre for Eastern British Columbia housing gold smelting works and the Upper Columbia Navigation Co. It is a distribution point for rich mineral country and known for its scenery and lumber industry.

Calgary visitors Mr. E. Jacques and W. R. Hull were in town this week. Steps are underway to organize an I.O.O.F. lodge. Hyak began its season journey on Wednesday. Furniture for additions to Qwen's and Columbia House arrived. J. C. Durick, A. Watson and N. Hanson returned from the Upper Country. Government street grading and road widening continue. John Barr had a jaw bullet extracted by Dr. Taylor. A pair of men were held for trial on counterfeit money charges. The weekly dance drew strong attendance.
