Maintenance organisation for Shire roads proposed by engineer

The Shire Engineer recommends a dedicated maintenance unit for Shire roads with two heavy patrol graders and a four man lorry gang at an estimated yearly cost of £5980 and about £1000 extra from the roads allocation. Council defers decision, noting the need to improve gravelled and drained roads and the public demand for a smooth all weather surface.

Tail-less Swallow Jet Flies On Test Flight

John Cunningham, wartime night fighter ace and chief test pilot for De Havilland, pilots the new Swallow 108 jet in a test flight. The aircraft features a pointed nose and revised cockpit and tail from the earlier 108, following the Goblin turbojet delivering 3,700 lb thrust in history.
