British plan to can and ship butter to Britain armies
An Australian creamery program to convert inferior butter into nonrefrigerated canned fat aims to cut secondary butter yield by about 5000 tons annually and ship it to Britain and overseas armies. The process preserves vitamins, raises food value, and may lead to more plants if successful. Debt and storage funds will be raised via deductions from compensation payments to support cheese production and emergency cold stores. Britain plans to buy only 7000 tons of Australia’s best butter, risking a large carryover of export butter.
