Prospecting Tales From Wangat and Magellan Cloud Mine Era
A reader recalls 50 plus years of gold prospecting in the Dungog region. The Magellan Cloud near Wangat was among the first mines, with 20 member company led by William Smith, and later activity by Thos Irwin and others. Reefs yielded gold, but early work was rough. legends of a rich reef persist above Whispering Gully where access was steep.
