Back to Stroud carnival attracts crowds from far districts
The Stroud carnival on Saturday drew large crowds from surrounding districts. Motorists and a special train from New Weston brought attendees, including Gloucester residents. Weather was sunny with intense heat, and vendors reported strong sales at the ice cream and cool drink stalls. The event featured the Hoy Routes Contest and an opening by notable speakers, while the Stroud area’s early colonial developments and the Stroud village history were noted in passing.

Strouds Storied Past Shaped By Early Families And Community
Fragmentary reminiscences recount Strouds early settlement by many notable families such as the Cowper Tozer and Dangar lineages. The text notes prominent locals in pastoral work and commerce, including C. J. McRae and Ebsworths, Seatts, and Meirthers, among others, with reference to a 19th century storekeeper Stubbs and a revival carnival led by community figures. The excerpt describes social gatherings, local leadership, and a celebratory carnival atmosphere with electric effects and elaborate ceremonies.
