Police Court Monday October 2 Alleged Fraud and Failing Cheque
A man named Elwood Freeman Neylor faced a police court on Monday charged with making a false pretence to defraud. A cheque drawn on a Gloucester bank for a small sum purportedly paid for a coach car was presented by Neylor who claimed funds but lacked an account. Evidence described a Gloucestershire incident and a prior similar offence. Neylor, aged about five years younger? was remanded for ten days. on Tuesday the case continued with Mr Cowan representing the defense. The defendant admitted the signed cheque and that he received £3 from Arthur Fothecinus Ham, and he said he had no account in Gloucester. Cowan also said Neylor enlisted in the Victorian bank, claimed £130,900 in Queensland assets, and had been drinking. The court noted a past record and that a co-conspirator arranged for a car cheque. On judgment day, Neylor pleaded guilty and received ten months imprisonment with a fine of £8 and additional costs waived. Time’s.
