New World's Oldest Man Claim Stirs Curious Interest
A new claimant arises for the world’s oldest man title after Zaga Aghs, a Turk aged 148 who died in a road accident, is eclipsed by Li Chiang yun of Szechuan China. Li, 24 times married with a 60 year old wife, is described with long chin and yellow hair. Born under Kangxi, Li’s youthful tales refer to era events over a century past. He heads to Pekin for official recognition by Minkuo University. The note adds Britain’s 259 centenarians and 1921 Australia census figures as context.

Bird Day Message Encourages Australian Bird Study
Mr S H Smith of the Gould League urges Australian boys and girls to deepen knowledge of local birds ahead of Bird Day on October 25. He cites Martha Burnham’s love of American birds and recommends reading Birds and Green Places by A H Chisholm, alongside Froggatt and Leach, to base love on understanding. The text also notes a Wagga land block ballot where 2989 applications were trimmed to 1929 and Samuel Biggart won the 2408 acre allotment near Old Kyeamba. It adds a historical aside on the early use of tea in England, infusing in bulk and warming for use.
